Gradisar, Mayor VIA: Brenda Armijo, City Clerk FROM: Council Member Mark Aliff SUBJECT: AN AMENDED RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2020 GENERAL FUND BUDGET IN THE AMOUNT OF $15,000 TO BE PAID TO CRAZY FAITH MINISTRY TO ASSIST WITH THEIR ADDICTION & MENTAL STABILITY PROGRAM SUMMARY: This Resolution provides financial assistance to Crazy Faith Ministry. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: No previous action. BACKGROUND: City Council Member Mark Aliff is requesting financial support of Crazy Faith Ministry. Crazy Faith Ministry was established in 2017 and has been providing assistance to citizens of all ages and situations including financial assistance for emergencies, food and rent payments, counseling and addiction and mental health issues. Their ministry holds weekly meetings working with individuals on their specific needs. The goal of the ministry is to help citizens live a stable life off the streets. Crazy Faith Ministry historically helps one person into treatment per month which costs approximately $3,000 per admission. There has been a significant increase in need over the years and recently they assisted seven citizens with admission to treatment centers in one month. Crazy Faith Ministry pays all costs for citizens they help with no external funding assistance. The cost is exceeding their ability and financial assistance is needed to continue their efforts. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Funds in the amount of $15,000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2020 General Fund Budget to Crazy Faith Ministry. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not Applicable. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not Applicable. ALTERNATIVES: City Council could choose not to support Crazy Faith Ministry. RECOMMENDATION: This Resolution is at the request of City Council Member Mark Aliff.
