Flores and Members of City Council CC: Nicholas A. Gradisar, Mayor VIA: Brenda Armijo, City Clerk FROM: Council President Dennis Flores SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING TRANSFER OF FUNDS FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2020 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO THE PUBLIC WORKS TRAFFIC MAINTENANCE DIVISION IN THE AMOUNT OF $4,131.28 FOR REPLACEMENT OF FLAGPOLES AT THE NORTH SIDE HOME OF HEROES GATEWAY SIGN SUMMARY: Attached for consideration is an invoice for the replacement of two flagpoles. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: City Council has historically covered the cost of repair and/or replacement of flagpoles at the Home of Heroes gateway signs. BACKGROUND: City Council President Dennis Flores is requesting funds to reimburse the Public Works Traffic Maintenance Division for replacement of two flagpoles at the Home of Heroes gateway sign at the north end of town. In May 2020, staff noticed that two of the poles had developed cracks at a weak spot in the poles (a mounting hole for an internal rope) due to the force of high winds. This required the replacement of one 30-foot pole and one 40-foot pole. The third pole at the location had been replaced in March 2019 for the same reason. The new poles do not have this mounting hole which should improve the integrity of the new poles. The Traffic Maintenance Division was able to purchase the poles and install them using funds from their Repair & Maintenance account to expedite the process. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Funds in the amount of $4,131.28 would be transferred from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2020 General Fund Budget to the Public Works Traffic Maintenance Division’s Repair and Maintenance account. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not Applicable. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not Applicable. ALTERNATIVES: City Council could choose not to support this resolution. RECOMMENDATION: This Resolution is at the request of City Council President Dennis Flores.
