HomeMy WebLinkAbout14369RESOLUTION NO. 14369 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PUEBLO TO APPLY FOR A 2020 FIREHOUSE SUBS PUBLIC SAFETY FOUNDATION GRANT BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. The 2020 Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation (Grant Application), a copy of which is attached hereto, is hereby approved and authorized for submittal to the Firehouse Subs Foundation. SECTION 2. The Mayor of the City is authorized to execute the Grant Application in the name of the City. The Mayor is also authorized to execute any and all other certifications, assurances and other documents associated therewith. SECTION 3. The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 4. The Resolution shall become effective immediately upon final passage. Davenport – Chief of Police SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PUEBLO TO APPLY FOR A 2020 FIREHOUSE SUBS PUBLIC SAFETY FOUNDATION GRANT SUMMARY: This resolution authorizes an application to be submitted by the City of Pueblo for a 2020 Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation award. If awarded, monies will be used to purchase Exterior Safety Bumpers for the Pueblo Police Department patrol vehicle fleet. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. This is the first time the City has applied for this grant. BACKGROUND: The City of Pueblo Police Department is seeking approval to apply for funding to add Exterior Safety Bumpers to the fleet of Ford Interceptor Utility vehicles. The safety bumpers have been shown to drastically decrease the amount of damage to the exterior of the patrol vehicles, and in some instances of use there has been no damage to a vehicle at all. With the addition of the bumpers, officers would be able to have an additional piece of mind while attempting to place their vehicle up against the suspect vehicle, both front and rear without causing damage to the Police vehicle and may eliminate further violent actions at the time of contact. Officers also request the use of the bumpers for numerous vehicle / citizens assists where they have been able to move a disabled vehicle from the roadway to lessen the chance of further accidents / roadway congestion. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The request would include 46 Push bumpers and wraps which would be for 46 vehicles with the PB400 Setina push bumpers and PB5 Fender wraps. The vehicles to be equipped would include twenty-four (24) 2018 Ford Interceptor Utility Vehicles, seventeen (17) 2016 Ford Interceptor Utility Vehicles, and five (5) 2015 Ford Interceptor Utility Vehicles. The total cost of the project including parts ($29,681.96) and Labor/installation ($11,385.00) amounts to a total grant request of $41,066.96. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not Applicable. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not Applicable. ALTERNATIVES: If City Council does not approve this request, then the Pueblo Police Department will continue to operate the marked police vehicles without the extra advantage of push bumpers to protect the body of patrol vehicles from costly damage and assist citizens and the community with the best possible public service options.
