Flores and Members of City Council VIA: Brenda Armijo, Acting City Clerk FROM: Mayor Nicholas A. Gradisar SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE APPOINTMENT OF BRENDA ARMIJO TO THE POSITION OF CITY CLERK SUMMARY: The Mayor has appointed Brenda Armijo to the vacant position of City Clerk and requests confirmation of said appointment by the City Council. Such appointment is based on Ms. Armijo’s education, training, experience and fitness for the position. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: The City Clerk position became vacant in October 2017 and has been filled on an interim basis since that time. The Mayor has reviewed the qualifications of Ms. Armijo, who currently serves as the Acting City Clerk, a position she has held for the last 19 months. Ms. Armijo has been with the City of Pueblo since 1993, where she started her career with the City in Municipal Court. She has held positions in the Municipal Court, the Department of Planning and Community Development, and the City Clerk’s Office through the years. Ms. Armijo received an Associate of Occupational Studies Degree in 1986 as well as graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2014 with an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Management and an Associate of General Studies Degree. Ms. Armijo carries the Certified Municipal Clerk Designation and is a member of the Colorado Municipal Clerk’s Association and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The salary and benefits of the City Clerk have been budgeted and appropriated within the 2019 budget. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable to this Resolution. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not applicable to this Resolution. ALTERNATIVES: Failure to confirm the appointment of Ms. Armijo as the City Clerk will leave that department without a permanent director. RECOMMENDATION: Approval of the Resolution. RESOLUTION NO. 14228 A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE APPOINTMENT OF BRENDA ARMIJO TO THE POSITION OF CITY CLERK WHEREAS, Mayor Nicholas A. Gradisar has requested confirmation by the City Council of his appointment of Brenda Armijo to the vacant position of City Clerk; and WHEREAS, Ms. Armijo meets and surpasses the qualifications for appointment as the City Clerk based upon her education, training and experience; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1: The appointment by the Mayor of Brenda Armijo as City Clerk shall be and hereby is confirmed by the City Council. SECTION 2: The officers and staff of the City are authorized and directed to perform any and all acts consistent with this Resolution which are necessary or appropriate to implement the appointment described herein. SECTION 3: This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage and approval.
