HomeMy WebLinkAbout09445 ORDINANCE NO. 9445 AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $100,000 FROM THE ROBERT HOAG RAWLINGS FOUNDATION AND FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 FROM PUEBLO BANK AND TRUST, INC FOR THE GATEWAY TO THE SOUTHWEST I-25 ART PROJECT AND BUDGETING AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $105,000 TO CAPITAL PROJECT PL1801 WHEREAS, The Gateway to the Southwest I-25 Art Project PL1801 has been established; and, WHEREAS, a second of three donations in the amount of $100,000 has been offered by the Robert Hoag Rawlings Foundation towards the Project; and, WHEREAS, a donation in the amount of $5,000 has been offered by the Pueblo Bank and Trust, Inc towards the Project; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. Funds in the amount of $100,000 from the Robert Hoag Rawlings Foundation are hereby authorized to be accepted for the Gateway to the Southwest I-25 Art Project. SECTION 2. Funds in the amount of $5,000 from the Pueblo Bank and Trust, Inc are hereby authorized to be accepted for the Gateway to the Southwest I-25 Art Project. SECTION 3. Funds in the amount of $105,000 are hereby budgeted and appropriated to Capital Project PL1801, Gateway to the Southwest I-25 Art Project. SECTION 4. The officers and staff of the City are authorized and directed to perform any and all acts consistent with this Ordinance to implement the policies and procedures established herein. SECTION 5. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final action by the Mayor and City Council. Gradisar, Mayor VIA: Brenda Armijo, Acting City Clerk FROM: Steven Meier, Director of Planning and Community Development SUBJECT: AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $100,000 FROM THE ROBERT HOAG RAWLINGS FOUNDATION AND FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,000 FROM PUEBLO BANK AND TRUST, INC FOR THE GATEWAY TO THE SOUTHWEST I-25 ART PROJECT AND BUDGETING AND APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $105,000 TO CAPITAL PROJECT PL1801 SUMMARY: This Ordinance accepts a donation from the Robert Hoag Rawlings Foundation in the amount of $100,000 which is the second of three payments of their $300,000 donation to the Project and a donation in the amount of $5,000 from Pueblo Bank and Trust, Inc. Both donations in the amount of $105,000 will be budgeted and appropriated to Project PL1801, Gateway to the Southwest I-25 Art Project. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: On January 22, 2019, City Council accepted the first of three payments of a $300,000 donation from the Robert Hoag Rawlings Foundation for the Project. BACKGROUND: A community group requested the City provide funds equaling at least 1% of the Dillon Flyover Project costs or $130,000 be set aside for public art on the new Dillon Bridge. The funds would be used to leverage grants and donations to fund a $600,000 public art project. In 2017, the City selected Ken Williams from a regional call for entries, to construct the dual art piece on the new bridge titled Gateway to the Southwest. The Robert Hoag Rawlings Foundation has pledged a $300,000 donation towards the Project. This donation is the second of three payments. The third payment is scheduled to be submitted in August of 2019. The Pueblo Bank and Trust, Inc. has donated $5,000 to be divided, $2,500 toward each of the two sculptures. The City Planning and Community Department is currently involved in raising funds for the Project. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The donated funds in the amount of $105,000 will be deposited, budgeted and appropriated into the Gateway to the Southwest I-25 Art Project PL1801. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not Applicable. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not Applicable. ALTERNATIVES: The Project will not go forward if it is not funded. RECOMMENDATION : Approval of the Ordinance.
