SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE APPOINTMENT BY THE MAYOR OF A
MEMBER OF THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
SUMMARY:
This Resolution approves and confirms the appointment by the Mayor of Gregory S. Howell to the
Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) to complete a four-year term expiring January 1, 2023.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
Appointments to the Historic Preservation Commission are made on an annual basis selecting
st
individuals to serve terms expiring on January 1 of each year.
BACKGROUND:
Following advertisements published in the Pueblo Chieftain and an announcement on the City
Clerk’s webpage seeking volunteers to serve on this commission, the City Council, on December
26, 2018, by Resolution No. 14133, appointed the following three (3) persons to serve four year
terms on the HPC:
Chris Markuson (incumbent)
Andy Sanchez (incumbent)
Anthony P. Perko (new member)
Mr. Perko submitted the only timely new application. A new application from Gregory S. Howell
was received late and was not considered for the vacancy which Mr. Perko filled but rather placed
on file for future appointment.
Due to the recent resignation of HPC member Andy Sanchez there is one appointment available
to complete Mr. Sanchez’ four-year term expiring January 1, 2023.
Mr. Howell’s application was submitted for consideration of appointment by the Mayor and the
Mayor has decided to appoint Mr. Howell.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
This a volunteer committee and members serve without compensation.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
Historic Preservation Commission supports this appointment.
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
None.
ALTERNATIVES:
Remove from agenda and re-advertise for additional applications.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Resolution.
