Flores, City Council President SUBJECT: AN ORDINANCE FIXING COMPENSATION AND PROVIDING A SALARY INCREASE OF 2.5% FOR THE PRESIDING MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE SUMMARY: The proposed Ordinance increases the monthly compensation of the Presiding Municipal Judge by 2.5%. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Pursuant to Resolution No. 13955, Carla Sikes was appointed as the Presiding Municipal Judge for a two-year term commencing May 1, 2018 with a monthly compensation of $9,630.49. BACKGROUND: The proposed Ordinance increases the monthly compensation of the Presiding Municipal Judge consistent with the 2.5% salary increase provided for other Unclassified employees in the 2019 Budget. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The monthly increase of 2.5% is $240.76. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable to this Ordinance. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not applicable to this Ordinance. ALTERNATIVES: The City Council could choose not to approve the Ordinance and the Presiding Municipal Judge would not receive the increase. RECOMMENDATION: The fixing of compensation for the Presiding Municipal Judge is a matter solely in the discretion of City Council. The proposed increase is consistent with the increase received by other Unclassified employees and is consistent with a cost of living adjustment. Attachments: Proposed Ordinance. ORDINANCE NO. 9417 AN ORDINANCE FIXING COMPENSATION AND PROVIDING A SALARY INCREASE OF 2.5% FOR THE PRESIDING MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. Effective January 1, 2019, the monthly compensation of the Presiding Municipal Judge of the Municipal Court shall be increased by two and one-half percent (2.5%) over the monthly compensation presently received and previously fixed by Council on April 23, 2018. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are authorized and directed to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Ordinance to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall become effective on the date of final action by the Mayor and City Council.
