HomeMy WebLinkAbout14131RESOLUTION NO. 14131 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF DEVELOPING AN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM WITH COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY-PUEBLO BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. President’s Leadership Program of the Colorado State University-Pueblo (“CSU- P”) is interested in developing with the City an internship program. City Council finds that such a program would have benefits to and promote the general welfare of the City provided such programs and any related agreements adequately address City interests. City Council declares its support of and direction to work with CSU-P in the development of an internship program. SECTION 2. The officers of the City are authorized and directed to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon final passage. Nicoll and Members of City Council VIA: Brenda Armijo, Acting City Clerk FROM: Sam Azad, City Manager SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF DEVELOPING AN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM WITH COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY-PUEBLO SUMMARY: President’s Leadership Program of the Colorado State University-Pueblo (“CSU-P”) is interested in developing with the City an internship program. This Resolution declares City Council support of and direction to work with CSU-P in the development of an internship program. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None BACKGROUND: CSU-P has approached the City with respect to developing with the City an internship program. CSU-P represents the following with respect to such a program (herein the “Pueblo Internship Program”): (a) The Pueblo Internship Program a learning opportunity to integrate the classroom with practical knowledge in the workplace and offers an intern experience in their field of interest; and (b) The Pueblo Internship Program provides the City qualified, skilled individuals to augment the workforce to assist in projects, to meet strategic staffing on a short-term basis, to bring current technology ideas to the workplace, and provides training to help build a qualified and skilled workforce; and (c) The Pueblo Internship Program partners with local colleges to help benefit the community by providing opportunities for talented individuals through the acquisition of skills in their areas of interest; and (d) The Pueblo Internship Program can help to retain qualified and skilled individuals to remain in the Pueblo area, providing quality employees for the future by building relationships with employers as well as providing networking opportunities; and (e) The City of Pueblo could benefit from The Pueblo Internship Program by providing assistance with one-time projects in departments; by completing background work of a general nature that cannot be completed by regular staff during the normal work hours, or through unexpected work that comes out of normal business activities FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The costs of any such program are presently unknown.
