A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE
COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2018 GENERAL
FUND BUDGET TO THE PUEBLO HUMAN RELATIONS
COMMISSION IN THE AMOUNT OF $300 TO SPONSOR THEIR
ANNUAL BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
Payment in the amount of $300 from the Council Contingencies Account in the
2018 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to the Pueblo Human Relations
Commission to sponsor their 2018 Fundraising Breakfast.
SECTION 2.
The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and
all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and
procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a sponsorship request from the Pueblo Human Relations
Commission for the 2018 Fundraising Breakfast on October 24, 2018.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None.
BACKGROUND:
Council Member Ray Aguilera is requesting funding to sponsor this event. The Pueblo
Human Relations Commission works to promote the dignity and well-being of every
citizen in Pueblo. They are also active in addressing the opioid crisis in our community.
They have opened a needle exchange program, started the Pueblo Harm Reduction
Center, and are working to create a community resource center to help addicts become
drug-free and return to the community as productive citizens.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funds in the amount of $300 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in
the 2018 General Fund Budget to the Pueblo Human Relations Commission.

Not Applicable.

Not Applicable.
ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could choose not to fund this event.
RECOMMENDATION:
This Resolution is at the request of Council Member Ray Aguilera.

Dear Mr. Nicholl:
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Pueblo Human Relations Commission to address
discrimination and to promote human relations and dignity for all.
We are asking again for the Pueblo City Council to be a Corporate Sponsor at our
2018 Fundraising Breakfast on Wednesday, October 24, 7:30 am
at the Historic Union Depot, 132 West B Street, Pueblo.
This year we will honor two women who have tong given leadership in our community: Lucille
Corsentino, Roselawn Foundation; and Jane Rawlings, Rawlings Foundation. Our keynote
speaker will be the Reverend Kevin Olsen, retired pastor and community activist.
I have enclosed an invitation and our new 2018 report to our supporters. In 2016 and 2017
HRC focused on the opioid crisis. With the launching of a new nonprofit on January 1, 2018,
HRC has returned to its core mission and purposes. I hope you will take a moment to look at
the enclosed report about this year's activities.
