A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE DONATION OF
“CHIEF’S PRIDE” BRONZE CASTING CAROUSEL HORSE
FROM JERRY AND VALERIE MURPHY AND THE PUEBLO
CAROUSEL ASSOCIATION, TO BE LOCATED IN THE
GEORGE R. WILLIAMS MEMORIAL CAROUSEL BUILDING
FOR PERMANENT DISPLAY AND APPROVING THE
INSTALLATION OF THE SAME
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1:
The City of Pueblo hereby accepts the bronze carousel horse titled “Chief’s Pride”
donated by Jerry and Valerie Murphy and the Pueblo Carousel Association and approves
the installation of same in the Pueblo City Park George R. Williams Memorial Carousel
Building.
SECTION 2:
The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and
all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution and to effectuate the policies and
procedures described herein.
SECTION 3:
This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage.

SUMMARY:
This Resolution will approve the acceptance of a donated bronze casting of a historic C.W. Parker
Second Row Jumper carousel horse titled “Chief’s Pride” from Jerry and Valerie Murphy and the
Pueblo Carousel Association and approve the installation of this art piece within the George R.
Williams Memorial Carousel Building.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None
BACKGROUND:
On April 9, 2018, Pueblo City Council approved the naming of the historical carousel within the
Rides at City Park the “George R. Williams Memorial Carousel” in honor of the late George R.
Williams for his successful efforts and tireless dedication to restore the nationally renowned C.W.
Parker #72 Historic Carousel.
George’s legacy was remembered and honored during the July 25, 2018 “George R. Williams
Day” at the Rides in City Park. Jerry and Valerie Murphy and the Pueblo Carousel Association
were on hand during the festivities and presented “Chief’s Pride”, which is named after George
R. Williams, to the City for permanent display within the newly renovate ticket office in the George
R. Williams Memorial Carousel Building.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The Pueblo Carousel Association has paid for the approximate $10,000 of renovations required
for the George R. Williams Memorial Carousel Building to permanently house “Chief’s Pride”.

None
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
None
ALTERNATIVES:
Council could choose not to accept the donation and remove the Resolution from the agenda.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Resolution.
