City Park Gate Restoration
Committee
Councilman Ed Brown
Pueblo City Council

The Historic City Park Entrance Gates
Dear Councilman Brown,
I hope you and your fellow council members have had an opportunity to stop and admire the
work being done to restore and, as needed, to recreate the historic entrance gate to Pueblo City
Park. The staff of the Parks Department and the Aberdeen neighborhood committee have worked
together to raise money and do the work to have a much improved entrance to the most visited
attraction in the community, City Park.
Progress to date has included removal of large rocks in the median (not historic), the installation
of the two gates made by the PCC welding department and the cleaning and painting of the urns.
In process are new large letters to install saying "City Park" and working with Black Hills to
move old wooden light poles and replace the street lights.. Recently the Pueblo Chieftain did a
great article about the history of the park and the entrance gate.
Our current project is to restore the one griffin and replace the missing griffins that need to be
placed on the highest points of the gate. This project will cost $16,000. The artist is located in the
town of San Luis and has his own foundry. To date we have raised $5,450 with a grant request in
process for $5,000. The Aberdeen neighbors will be having a fundraiser in mid-June to raise
additional funds. We will make sure you receive an invitation!
We appreciate the support you have given to the project in previous years and we are now asking
for$1,000 to help with this phase of the project.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or need additional information.
Thanks again for your support!
Sincerely,
