My name is Robert Donovan and I am the 8th grade social studies teacher and soccer coach at Risky. I am requesting your support of the student-athletes at Risky who are interested in participating in the soccer program but are financial unable to acquire the funds necessary for registration. Unfortunately, the soccer program is not run by the district, so students arc required to pay a $70 registration fee in addition to $35 for a jersey. With 75% of Risky students living at or below the federal poverty level and an average per capita annual income of$5,160, the feasibility for families to allocate $100 for their student to participate in soccer is unrealistic. With that said, I would like to solicit the help of the city to provide these students with the opportunity to participate in this program. As of now, there will be 20 spots available for students but given the expansion of our coaching staff we might have two teams with over 30 students able to join. In addition to the opportunity to participate in athletics, it is my policy as a coach to hold these students to a high standard in the classroom as well. Bi-weekly grade and behavioral checks are expected from every student-athlete before they can play. Furthermore, there is a service component to being apart of the team starting with a clean up of our school campus. If this is something the City of Pueblo is able to support, myself and the students of Risky International would be extremely grateful. Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge this request, and I hope we can come together to provide the students of the East Side with this valuable opportunity. Sincerely, (74-7 Robert Donovan Risky International Academy of Innovation 8th Grade Social Studies
