A RESOLUTION NAMING THE HISTORIC CAROUSEL
BUILDING AT CITY PARK THE “GEORGE R. WILLIAMS
MEMORIAL CAROUSEL BUILDING”
WHEREAS, George R. Williams was the driving force behind the restoration and
preservation of Pueblo’s C.W. Parker #72 Historic Carousel; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that the memory of this respected member
of our community be preserved in this community for years to come. NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1:
The Historic Carousel Building located within the Rides at City Park in Pueblo
Colorado, be named the “GEORGE R. WILLIAMS MEMORIAL CAROUSEL BUILDING”.
SECTION 2:
The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and all
acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution and to effectuate the policies and
procedures described herein.
SECTION 4:
This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage.

SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION NAMING THE HISTORIC CAROUSEL BUILDING AT CITY
PARK THE “GEORGE R. WILLIAMS MEMORIAL CAROUSEL BUILDING”
SUMMARY:
This Resolution will approve the naming of the current historical carousel building within the Rides
at City Park the “George R. Williams Memorial Carousel Building” in honor of the late George R.
Williams for his efforts with the restoration of the nationally renowned C.W. Parker #72 Historic
Carousel.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None
BACKGROUND:
George R. Williams spent 37 years with the Pueblo Parks and Recreation Department and retired
in 1985 as the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director. Mr. Williams passed away on January 2,
2018 at the age of 87 years old. 1n 1983, George began the project of securing funding, planning,
and building a ticket office and a needed shelter for the C.W. Parker #72 Historic Carousel.
Because of George’s endless dedication, the Pueblo carousel is considered one of the finest
conditioned historic carousels in the entire country. Through his involvement with the Pueblo
County Historic Society, George created the Pueblo Historical Carousel Committee whose
purpose was to help find necessary funds to help keep the C.W. Parker #72 Historic Carousel in
premium condition for all ages to enjoy for generations to come.
George’s family, as well as the Pueblo County Historical Society Board or Directors, has
requested that the City approve naming the carousel building the “George R. Williams Memorial
Carousel Building” in honor of George’s involvement and dedication to not only for his care and
efforts with the restoration and preservation of the carousel, but for his dedication and
contributions to the community he grew up in and loved so much.

The Parks and Recreation Department has designated July 25 as George R. Williams Day at
the Rides at City Park. George’s legacy will be remembered and honored during events that
evening. The dedication of the building would be a highlight in the activities that evening.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The Pueblo County Historical Society, the Pueblo Historical Carousel Committee, and the family
of George Williams will be purchasing and installing the signage.

None.
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
None.
ALTERNATIVES:
Council could remove the Resolution from the agenda.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Resolution.
