SUMMER MUSICAL EVENT
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
Payment in the amount of $1,000 from the Council Contingencies Account in the
2018 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Pueblo Summer Musical
Fundraising Committee to sponsor the 2018 Pueblo Summer Musical.
SECTION 2.
The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and
all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and
procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

Attached for consideration is a request for sponsorship of the 60 Anniversary Pueblo

Summer Musical Committee 6 for the summer 2018 program.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None.
BACKGROUND:

Council Member Ray Aguilera is requesting $1,000 to sponsor the 60 Anniversary
Pueblo Summer Musical Committee. Funds will go towards ballroom rental at the Sangre
de Cristo Arts Center, food, displays and photos, enhanced props and costumes for the
shows and promotion/advertisements. All to help preserve the tradition of musical theater
in Pueblo.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funds in the amount of $1000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in
the 2018 General Fund Budget to Pueblo Summer Musical Fundraising Committee.

Not Applicable.

ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this event.

Summer 2018
Dear Pueblo City Council Members,
Broadway Musical
In August of 1959 a tradition in Pueblo was born, the Summer Musical. Les Miserables
What began as a chance for kids to do musical theater has continued, and in
July the Summer Musical will celebrate a remarkable milestone: 60 years of Show Dates
bringing unique performances to Pueblo audiences!! Each year this Pueblo July 14 & 15 2:00 pm
tradition impacts 75-100 young actors and musicians from all corners of July 16-19 7:00 pm
Pueblo and surrounding areas. For six nights every July, nearly 3,000 Cost$12.00
community members have gathered to watch the stage come alive! Location
Sangre de Cristo
Production expenses for shows average $40,000-$50,000. Thankfully the Arts Center
Summer Musical has been sustained throughout the years with support from 210 N. Santa Fe
School District 60 (Pueblo City Schools), the Pueblo Parks and Recreation, Pueblo, CO
local business sponsors such as Montgomery Steward Funeral Directors, 719-295-7200
advertisements,fundraisers and ticket sales.
Fundraising
In recognition of one of the longest running traditions in Pueblo we will Event
hold a week of celebration. The celebration will not only be for current and Lunch and music with
past cast and orchestra members, but will also act as a thank you to the the cast of
community for helping to preserve musical theater in Pueblo. The Les Miserables
celebration will feature a reception on July 15,2018 at the Sangre De Cristo
Arts Center following the Matinee Show. In addition, each performance Date
will highlight a decade of musicals. Sunday-June 24, 2018

Cost: $10.00
Because the expenses for the celebration are in addition to our normal funds
raised, we are asking Pueblo City Council for $1,000.00 to help with the Location
60`h Anniversary Celebration. Funds will go towards Ballroom rental at the The Gold Dust Saloon
Sangre de Cristo Arts Center ($1,000), food ($750), displays and photos 217 S. Union Ave
($500), enhanced props and costumes ($500) for the shows and
promotion/advertisements($250). 6oth Anniversary
