Nicoll and Members of City Council VIA: Brenda Armijo, Acting City Clerk CC: Sam Azad, City Manager FROM: Chief Troy Davenport – Pueblo Police Department A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION OF FUNDS TO THE CITY SUBJECT: OF PUEBLO AND PUEBLO POLICE DEPARTMENT RELATING TO LITTLE CAESARS PIZZA RESTAURANT’S GIFT OF $2,000 TO PROJECT NUMBER CO4791 – NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH/COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS FUND SUMMARY: Attached is a Resolution outlining a donation of funds to the Pueblo Police Department by Little Caesars Pizza Restaurant. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None BACKGROUND: Over the past several years it has been no secret that burglaries and auto thefts have been prevalent in the City of Pueblo. In the recent past, the Pueblo Police Department has seen a decrease in burglaries but a continued increase in auto thefts. The decrease in burglaries can possibly be contributed to crime prevention efforts and information disseminated through proactive programs such as the quickly growing Neighborhood Watch program, using the Department’s social media pages and by the assisting efforts of local sponsors. In 2016, local Little Caesars business owner, Dave Feamster, approached the Community Services Division and expressed his concern of wanting to help. He immediately contributed towards a burglary prevention campaign that provided a package of two 3-inch wood decking screws that was designed to easily replace a home’s standard 1-inch strike plate door screws to provide a more secure entry door that could resist being kicked in so easily. The strike plate replacement screws package was so successful, that after further discussion with Mr. Feamster on other efforts being put forth through the aforementioned programs, Mr. Feamster stated he wanted to continue to be part of the Department’s proactive efforts. Each year, Little Caesars raises money through coupon sales to be utilized in the community. Mr. Feamster stated he wanted to donate $2,000.00 to assist the Department with our proactive crime prevention efforts such as future burglary prevention tips and tips on how to protect vehicles from being stolen. Mr. Feamster has already generously provided the Department with a check in that amount and there are no requested obligations from Mr. Feamster. Despite that fact, the Department has always announced any sponsor who has participated or assisted in any of our Department’s crime prevention efforts as an expression of gratitude as we work closely together with our community to defeat crime. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not applicable. ALTERNATIVES: City Council may choose to refuse the donation of funds. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the Resolution and accept the donation of funds. Attachments: Proposed Resolution
