HomeMy WebLinkAbout13871 City Clerk’s Office Item # M-4 Background Paper for Proposed Resolution COUNCIL MEETING DATE: January 8, 2018 TO: Members of City Council CC: Sam Azad, City Manager VIA: Office of the City Clerk FROM: Brenda Armijo, Acting City Clerk SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION FIXING ALTERNATE DAYS FOR REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS CURRENTLY SCHEDULED FOR THE SECOND MONDAY IN OCTOBER AND THE FOURTH MONDAYS IN MAY AND DECEMBER 2018 SUMMARY: This Resolution changes the dates of the three 2018 Regular City Council meetings currently scheduled for the second Monday in October, the fourth Monday in May, and the fourth Monday in December in order to accommodate the 2018 City Holiday Schedule. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: A Resolution changing the dates for any Regular City Council Meeting that falls on a City Holiday during the year is prepared for the first meeting in January of each year. BACKGROUND: Per Section 3-15 of the City Charter, “If a regular meeting shall fall on or the evening before a City holiday, the City Council may by Resolution fix another day for such regular meeting.” Monday, May 28, 2018 is observed as Memorial Day and October 8, 2018 is observed as Columbus Day, both observed as City Holidays. Monday, December 24, 2017 is Christmas Eve, and while it is not observed as a City Holiday; the evening is traditionally considered an unofficial and common holiday evening for most people. The Regular Meeting scheduled for Monday, May 28, 2018 will be moved to Tuesday, May 29, 2017; the Regular Meeting scheduled for Monday, October 8, 2018 will be moved to Tuesday, October 9, 2018; and the Regular Meeting scheduled for Monday, December 24, 2018 will be moved to Wednesday, December 26, 2018. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not Applicable for this Resolution STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not Applicable for this Resolution. ALTERNATIVES: If the three aforementioned meetings are not rescheduled by Resolution, the Regular Meetings shall be held on the date of the recognized City holiday. RECOMMENDATION: Approval of the Resolution. RESOLUTION NO. 13871 A RESOLUTION FIXING ALTERNATE DAYS FOR REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS CURRENTLY SCHEDULED FOR THE SECOND MONDAY IN OCTOBER AND THE FOURTH MONDAYS IN MAY AND DECEMBER 2018 WHEREAS, the Regular City Council Meeting scheduled for the Fourth Monday in May falls on May 28, 2018, which is observed as Memorial Day and a City Holiday; and WHEREAS, the Regular City Council Meeting scheduled for the Second Monday in October falls on October 8, 2018, which is observed as Columbus Day and a City Holiday; and WHEREAS, the Regular City Council Meeting scheduled for the Fourth Monday in December falls on December 24, 2017, which is Christmas Eve; and while it is not observed as a City Holiday; the evening is traditionally considered an unofficial and common holiday evening; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1: Tuesday, May 29, 2018 is hereby fixed as the day for the Regular Meeting of the Pueblo City Council, originally scheduled for Monday, May 28, 2018. SECTION 2: Tuesday, October 9, 2018 is hereby fixed as the day for the Regular Meeting of the Pueblo City Council, originally scheduled for Monday, October 8, 2018. SECTION 3: Wednesday, December 26, 2018 is hereby fixed as the day for the Regular Meeting of the Pueblo City Council, originally scheduled for Monday, December 24, 2018.
