RESOLUTION NO. 13822
A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE NAME CHANGE FROM
THE “PUEBLO CITY-COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT” TO
THE “PUEBLO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND
ENVIRONMENT”
WHEREAS, C.R.S. § 25-1-506, et seq., requires each county to establish and
maintain a county public health agency or participate in a district public health agency;
and
WHEREAS, Article 11 of the City Charter mandates that the City of Pueblo operate
a Health Department; and
WHEREAS, the Pueblo City-County Health Department was originally established
as a public health department in 1956, by agreement, merging the City of Pueblo Health
Department with the Pueblo County Health Department; and
WHEREAS, the 1956 merger agreement was amended and restated by an
Intergovernmental Agreement, dated October 11, 1983, between the City of Pueblo and
Pueblo County; and
WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the City of Pueblo’s Board of Health to
change the name of the Pueblo City-County Health Department to the “Pueblo
Department of Public Health and Environment” to better align with the Colorado
Department of Public Health and Environment; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo concurs with this recommendation and, in
conjunction with the Board of County Commissioners of Pueblo County, desires to
change the name of the Pueblo City-County Health Department to the Pueblo Department
of Public Health and Environment; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
The name change of the Pueblo City-County Health Department to the “Pueblo
Department of Public Health and Environment” is hereby approved and will become
effective when the Board of County Commissioners of Pueblo County approves the same.
SECTION 2.
Whenever reference is made to the Pueblo City-County Health Department in the
Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Pueblo and Pueblo County, Colorado,
dated October 11, 1983, the name shall be changed to and referenced as the Pueblo
Department of Public Health and Environment.
SECTION 3.
Nothing in this Resolution shall be construed to affect the Intergovernmental
Agreement or any prior Amendments thereto and all terms of said Intergovernmental
Agreement as amended shall remain in full force and effect as provided therein.
SECTION 4.
Nothing in this Resolution shall be construed to affect agreements previously
entered into or official actions taken by the Pueblo City-County Health Department, all of
which shall remain in full force and effect as provided therein.
SECTION 5.
The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and
all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to implement the policies and
procedures described herein.
SECTION 6.
This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon final passage.

SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE NAME CHANGE FROM THE “PUEBLO

SUMMARY:
The City’s and County’s Board of Health has requested a name change from the “Pueblo City-
County Health Department” to the “Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment.” This
Resolution will accomplish that name change. A similar Resolution is currently pending before
the Board of County Commissioners of Pueblo County.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
The Pueblo City-County Health Department was originally established as a public health
department in 1956, by agreement, merging the City of Pueblo Health Department with the Pueblo
County Health Department. The 1956 merger agreement was amended and restated by an
Intergovernmental Agreement, dated October 11, 1983, between the City of Pueblo and Pueblo
County.
BACKGROUND:
It is the recommendation and request of the Board of Health to change the name of the “Pueblo
City-County Health Department” to the “Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment” to
better align with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
The City’s and County’s Board of Health supports this Resolution.
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
Not applicable to this Resolution.
ALTERNATIVES:
If this Resolution is not approved, the name of the Pueblo City-County Health Department will
remain unchanged.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the Resolution.
