SUBJECT: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 9-14-2 OF THE PUEBLO MUNICIPAL
CODE RELATING TO CHRISTMAS TREE SALES PERMITS AND ALLOWING
SALES THEREUNDER TO COMMENCE THANKSGIVING DAY
SUMMARY:
This Ordinance amends the municipal code changing the initial day covered by a permit for
st
Christmas tree sales from December 1 to Thanksgiving Day.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
City council passed Ordinance No. 5085 on September 26, 1983 requiring a permit for
Christmas tree sales for those not regularly engaged in in the business of growing or selling
stth
trees or plants, and establishing a permit from December 1 to December 27.
BACKGROUND:
st
Permit holders are currently limited to the sale of Christmas trees from December 1 to
th
December 27. Permit holders suggest that the current dates negatively affect their ability to
compete with other retail outlets that begin selling trees on Thanksgiving Day. This ordinance
will change the effective starting date of the permit to Thanksgiving Day. Greenhouses and
other businesses regularly in the business of selling trees and plants are not required to obtain a
permit to sell Christmas trees and are unaffected by this ordinance.
