Payment in the amount of $5,000 from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2017 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to Colorado Mission of Mercy for the th sponsorship of the 11 Annual Colorado Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic being held October 13-14, 2017 at the Colorado State Fair Events Center. SECTION 2. The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: th City Council sponsored the 6 Annual COMOM Dental Clinic held in Pueblo in 2012 in the amount of $5,000. BACKGROUND: Council Member Ray Aguilera is requesting funding for this event being held on October 13-14, 2017. COMOM is a dental clinic that is held annually in a Colorado community. In th 2012, the 6 Annual Clinic was held in Pueblo and volunteer dental professionals provided nearly 1,700 patients with donated dental care. This year, the Colorado State Fair Events Center will host the clinic with more than 100 dental chairs. Volunteers from across the state will provide an estimated 1,500 patients with quality oral healthcare services. Treatments will include fillings, cleanings, root canals, extractions, porcelain crowns, partial dentures, and full dentures. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Funds in the amount of $5,000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in the 2017 General Fund Budget to Colorado Mission of Mercy. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Not Applicable. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: Not Applicable. ALTERNATIVES: City Council could choose not to fund this event for 2017. RECOMMENDATION: This Resolution is at the request of Council Member Ray Aguilera. The request is from the Colorado Mission of Mercy (COMOM). A financial contribution of$10,000 from the City would assist COMOM to provide a multitude of Pueblo residents with free dental services. In 2012, its clinic was in Pueblo, and volunteer dental professionals provided nearly 1,700 patients with donated dental care. Attached to this request is a summary of findings from the 2012 Pueblo COMOM On October 13 and 14, 2017, COMOM is returning to Pueblo. The event center at the Colorado State Fairgrounds will once again be transformed into a dental clinic with more than 100 dental chairs. Volunteers from across the state, including dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and an array of other volunteers, will provide an estimated 1,500 patients with quality oral healthcare services. COMOM is working in tandem with social service organizations in Pueblo area to ensure individuals who are in dental need are aware of the program. Once at the clinic,dentists and dental hygienists will provide patients with cleanings, fillings,root canals,and extractions. Porcelain crowns, partial dentures,and full dentures will also be prepared. In total, more than 1,000 volunteers will converge on the City of Pueblo,taking advantage of its many hotels and restaurants. In addition,working with the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce,COMOM is providing volunteers with information on Pueblo sites and activities. Funding from the City of Pueblo would assist COMOM to provide 1,500 patients with more than $1,000,000 in donated dental care. In particular, funding would assist COMOM to purchase dental supplies not acquired through in-kind donations. As displayed in the attachment, the 2017 COMOM budget is $197,500.
