RESOLUTION NO. 13613
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE USE OF “BANKS OF
THE ARKANSAS” AS A THEME SONG FOR THE CITY OF
PUEBLO
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
The City Council hereby supports the use of “Banks of the Arkansas” as a theme
song for the City of Pueblo.
SECTION 2.
The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and
all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and
procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE USE OF “BANKS OF THE
ARKANSAS” AS A THEME SONG FOR THE CITY OF PUEBLO
SUMMARY:
A song titled “Banks of the Arkansas” has been presented for consideration as a theme
song for the City of Pueblo.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
A letter of support was issued in 1977 by City Council President Henry G. Reyes.
BACKGROUND:
“Banks of the Arkansas” was written in 1971 by Bryan A. Richie and Doyle Trantham who
were Pueblo natives. The song was originally written as a tribute to the Arkansas River,
the “blood” of communities in our region, paying homage for sustaining this area. This
was the theme song for an original multi-media show at the Sangre de Cristo Arts &
Conference in 1975. The song was performed by bands and individuals who melded with
its message and relevance to this area.

There is no financial impact.

City Council could choose not to support this resolution.

This Resolution is at the request of City Council Member Chris Nicoll.
