SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION APPROVING A ONE YEAR EXTENSION OF THE
AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PUEBLO AND AMERICAN MEDICAL
RESPONSE OF COLORADO, INC. CONCERNING EMERGENCY MEDICAL
SERVICES
SUMMARY:
The attached resolution authorizes the City to extend the emergency medical services agreement
with American Medical Response of Colorado, Inc. (AMR) for an additional one year term from
May 1, 2016 through April 30, 2017.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None.
BACKGROUND:
This resolution is for a one year extension of an existing agreement between the City of Pueblo
and American Medical Response of Colorado, Inc. (AMR) on the same terms stated in the
agreement. The City through its Fire Department, provides emergency patient care services to
our community without charge. When a patient is in need of transport to a hospital their care is
transferred to AMR and AMR is allowed to bill for their services. In certain cases, Fire
Department members assist AMR in the transport of patients to the hospital and this service is
reimbursable. This contract addresses the rate of reimbursement that is due to the City from
AMR. The contract also addresses response time criteria.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
None.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
Not applicable.
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
Not applicable.
ALTERNATIVES:
The alternative is to take no action and allow the agreement to expire. AMR would still maintain
their licensing to transport patients, but would no longer be required to reimburse the City. This
would have a negative impact on the City budget of $8,020 per month.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Resolution.
