SWERDFEGER CONSTRUCTION, INC. AND SETTING FORTH $94,583 FOR CONTINGENCIES, FOR THE FY2015 BEULAH HEIGHTS REDIRECTION PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASING AGENT TO EXECUTE THE SAME SUMMARY: Attached is a resolution awarding a construction contract to K.R. Swerdfeger Construction, Inc. for FY2015 Beulah Heights Redirection Project to upsize an existing undersized sanitary sewer main that’s inaccessible to waste water cleaning crews. PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION : None BACKGROUND : Currently, there is a 10 inch sanitary sewer main running along the rear property line of the houses on the 2700 block of Aster Street. Collection crews have no access to the manholes in the sewer main easement for routine maintenance or cleaning. This 10 inch main serves the southern portion of the city and is above its capacity to carry the existing flow and no other. The work by K.R. Swerdfeger Construction, Inc. would involve the construction of 1,575 lineal feet of new 18-inch sewer main, construct 5 (five) 60-inch diameter manholes, reinstate 40 (forty) services, one manhole vault, and various surface improvements. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS : The cost of the construction project will not exceed $472,915. Funds are available from the State Revolving Fund Loan and have been appropriated to Project WL1401. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION : Not applicable STAKEHOLDER PROCESS : None ALTERNATIVES : Alternative No. 1 – No Action Under this alternative, the City would do no improvements to the existing sanitary mains and the system would remain as is. Doing so could result in sanitary sewer backup due to no maintenance and limit development on the south side of Pueblo. RECOMMENDATION : Approval of the Resolution.
