PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION : None BACKGROUND : The Wastewater Department is responding to concerns from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Environmental Protection Agency about the level of selenium in the effluent discharged from the James R. DiIorio Water Reclamation Facility to Segment 1a of the Lower Arkansas River. As part of the project, the Wastewater Department will be monitoring ground water levels through these water quality wells and correlating the levels with the flows found in the sanitary sewer system. The ground water from these water quality wells will also be sampled and analyzed in the areas surrounding and downstream of the sanitary sewer lining projects. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS : Actual costs will be based on the depth of the wells drilled and installed. These depths are cannot be determined accurately in advance. Bids were accepted based on unit prices per vertical foot for drilling, casement and screening, and well logs. Static costs per drilling site were provided for mobilization and traffic control. Based on bid prices and an estimated depth of 40 feet per well, the cost is expected to be approximately $3,000 per well. It is expected that more monitoring wells will be added as the selenium source control project proceeds. The final number of monitoring wells is not known at this time. Final costs will be provided as more specific information becomes available. Funds for this project have been established through Project WW1503 Selenium Reduction Project.
