SUMMARY:
th
Attached is a resolution awarding a construction contract to T.L. Printz Constructors, for 8 Street
Bridge Debris Removal.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION
:
None
BACKGROUND
:
In May and June of 2015 the Fountain Creek sustained flooding causing damage mostly to
embankments and trails, and also depositing debris along the Creek. Some of the debris is up
against bridge supports that can cause the water to undercut the supports and create structural
issues as well as additional erosion problems. This debris needs to be removed before the supports
can be inspected to determine if they have sustained any damage. The only traffic bridge over the
th
Fountain Creek that is owned and maintained by the City is the 8 Street Bridge. With the flood
season over and the water level being down to help in accessing the debris it was determined to
have this work performed.
Once the debris is removed a bridge engineer will be consulted to inspect the bridge supports to
determine if any repairs are necessary.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
:
Funding for this project will come from the Stormwater Utility funds. Funding is available and has
been budgeted, appropriated and allocated to Project No.15i-035 (SW0603). Application for FEMA
Disaster Recovery Funds for up to 75% of the cost of this project has been made and is pending.
Any awarded amount will be returned to Stormwater Utility.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION
:
Not applicable
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS
:
None
ALTERNATIVES
:
Alternative No. 1 – No Action
Under this alternative, the City would make no attempt to remove the debris deposited up against the
Bridge supports that could create erosion, therefore, undermining of them causing structural issues
with the Bridge. If there are unknown structural issues and the proper repair is not provided the
Bridge could become dangerous to the public safety.
RECOMMENDATION
:
Approval of the Resolution.
