CLASSIFICATION AND PAY PLAN BY ESTABLISHING THE PAY SCALE FOR
THE INVESTIGATIONS TECHNICIAN, POLICE RECORDS TECHNICIAN AND

SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is an amended Classification and Pay Plan Ordinance that reflects
the addition of the pay rate and salary schedule for the positions of Investigations Technician,
Police Records Technician and Property and Evidence Technician.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
In December 2014, City Council approved the annual Salary Ordinance for the 2015 fiscal year.
BACKGROUND:
Section 8-8 of the City Charter requires the Human Resources Director to provide a Uniform
Schedule of Pay for the Classified Service, which shall be approved by the City Manager and
submitted to City Council. The proposed Pay Schedule establishes the pay rate and salary
scale for the classified positions of Investigations Technician, Police Records Technician and
Property and Evidence Technician.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funding for these positions will come from the general fund. The difference in salary for the
remainder of 2015 is approximately $2,100.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
None.
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
None.
ALTERNATIVES:
There are no alternatives to this Ordinance. If this Salary Ordinance does not receive approval
by City Council, there will not be a pay rate or scale available to the Police Department and the
department will be unable to hire for these positions in the future. Additionally, existing
employees will have no designated pay scale.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Ordinance.
