HomeMy WebLinkAbout13309RESOLUTION NO. 13309 A RESOLUTION AWARDING BUILDING DEMOLITION CONTRACTS IN THE AMOUNTS OF $124,000 TO ENVIRONMENTAL ABATEMENT SOUTHWEST, $75,430 TO DIRT & DEMO, INC., AND $37,064 TO COLORADO HAZARD CONTROL FOR PROJECT NO. 15-040 SCATTERED SITE, SINGLE FAMILY ABATEMENT AND DEMOLITION OF DANGEROUS BUILDINGS AND AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASING AGENT TO EXECUTE THE SAME WHEREAS, proposals for Project No. 15-040 – Scattered Site, Single Family Abatement and Demolition of Dangerous Buildings have been received and examined; and WHEREAS, the proposals of Environmental Abatement Southwest, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Dirt & Demo, Inc. of Pueblo, Colorado and Colorado Hazard Control of Pueblo West, Colorado were the lowest of those bids determined to be responsible; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, COLORADO, that: SECTION 1. Contracts for Project No.15-040 – Scattered Site, Single Family Abatement and Demolition of Dangerous Buildings is hereby awarded to said bidders in the amounts of $124,000, $75,430 and $37,064. SECTION 2. The Purchasing Agent is hereby authorized to execute said contracts on behalf of Pueblo, a Municipal Corporation, and the City Clerk shall affix the seal of the City thereto and attest the same. SECTION 3. These demolition contracts will be paid from Community Development Block Grant Funds Project Code CD1113, CD1411, and CD1511 – Demolition of Unsafe Structures. SECTION 4. The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and procedures described herein. SECTION 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage and approval. Nawrocki and Members of City Council CC: Sam Azad, City Manager VIA: Gina Dutcher, City Clerk FROM: Earl Wilkinson, Director of Public Works SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION AWARDING BUILDING DEMOLITION CONTRACTS IN THE AMOUNTS OF $124,000 TO ENVIRONMENTAL ABATEMENT SOUTHWEST, $75,430 TO DIRT & DEMO, INC., AND $37,064 TO COLORADO HAZARD CONTROL FOR PROJECT NO. 15-040 SCATTERED SITE, SINGLE FAMILY ABATEMENT AND DEMOLITION OF DANGEROUS BUILDINGS AND AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASING AGENT TO EXECUTE THE SAME SUMMARY: This Resolution awards construction contracts to; Environmental Abatement SW for the th abatement and demolition of 1108 W. 12 Street ($59,200) and 1718 Moore Avenue ($64,800); to Dirt & Demo, Inc. for the abatement and demolition of 1503 Hood Avenue ($26,670), 515 Brown th Avenue ($13,310), 1506 E. Orman Avenue ($15,910) and 1203 E. 9 Street ($19,540); and to Colorado Hazard Control for the abatement and demolition of 1209 N. Nielson Avenue ($37,064). PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: None. BACKGROUND: The property owners at these locations have failed to comply with Regional Building Department orders pursuant to Section 401 of the Uniform Code for Abatement of Dangerous Buildings (1997 Ed.). Per Section 801 of the 1997 Abatement of Dangerous Buildings Code, the Regional Building Department has requested demolition of these buildings. This project will consist of the abatement of asbestos containing materials and demolition of single-family homes and other incidental items related to the razing of the structures as specified in the plans and the specifications. The work was competitively bid through the City’s Purchasing Department, and a copy of the bid summary is attached. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: This demolition contract will be paid from Community Development Block Grant Funds Project Codes CD1113, CD1411, and CD1511 – Demolition of Unsafe Structures. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: None. STAKEHOLDER PROCESS: None. ALTERNATIVES: Denial of this Resolution will result in cancellation of the project.
