AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN
THE CITY OF PUEBLO, A MUNICIPAL CORPORATION,
AND THE STATE OF COLORADO, THE DEPARTMENT OF
HIGHER EDUCATION, HISTORY COLORADO, THE
COLORADO HISTORICAL SOCIETY, BUDGETING AND
APPROPRIATING FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $9,920,
FOR THE STEEL WORKS PARK INTERPRETIVE SIGN
PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF CITY
COUNCIL TO EXECUTE SAID CONTRACT
WHEREAS, the State of Colorado, Department of Higher Education, History
Colorado (“History Colorado”), the State Historical Fund has offered funds through
Agreement CLG Subgrant Project #CO-15-021 Interpretive Signs;
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
The Contract between Pueblo, a Municipal Corporation, and History Colorado,
State Historical Fund Agreement CLG Subgrant Project #CO-15-021 Interpretive Signs
in the amount of $8,120 (hereinafter referred to as the “Contract”), a copy of which is
attached, having been approved as to form by the City Attorney, is hereby approved.
SECTION 2.
Steelworks Interpretive Signs Project is hereby established and funds in the
amount of $9,920 are hereby budgeted and appropriated for said Project.
SECTION 3.
Upon the request of the City, local matching funds in the amount of $1,800 will be
provided by the Bessemer Historical Society dba Steelworks Center of the West for said
Project.
SECTION 4.
The President of the City Council is authorized to execute and deliver the
Contract in the name of the City and the City Clerk is directed to affix the seal of the City
thereto and attest same.
SECTION 5.
The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and
all acts consistent with the intent of the Ordinance and Agreement to effectuate the
policies and procedures described therein.
SECTION 6.
This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final passage and
approval.

SUMMARY:
The City of Pueblo was awarded a CLG Sub grant from the State of Colorado, Colorado
Historical Society, dba History Colorado (“History Colorado”) in the amount of $9,920
relating to the Steelworks Park Interpretive Signage Project. The Bessemer Historical
Society will provide the local match in the amount of $1,800.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
None.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Pueblo has obtained funding in the amount of $8,120 from History Colorado
with local matching funds in the amount of $1,800 provided by the Bessemer Historical
Society (“Society”) for the design, construction and installation of six interpretive signs at
Steelworks Park outside of the Society’s Steelworks Museum. The project construction
is tentatively scheduled for August 15, 2015 with the completion on June 30, 2016.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The City will administer the grant funds provided through History Colorado and the
Society in the amount of $9,920.00. The funding sources for the History Colorado grant
contract include the following:

BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
None.
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
The Steelworks Museum staff has worked with the City to secure funding for the
addition of historic mining and steel production equipment at the Steelworks Park, and
the grant to install signs interpreting the historic equipment.
ALTERNATIVES:
If the contract is not approved, the project will be substantially delayed until the
Bessemer Historical Society can raise the remaining funds.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Ordinance.
