SUBJECT: AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 6-5-16 OF CHAPTER 5, OF TITLE VI
OF THE PUEBLO MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE FY 2015
CLASSIFICATION AND PAY PLAN BY MODIFYING THE PAY SCALE FOR
THE COMMUNICATIONS SUPERVISOR
SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is an amended Pay Plan Ordinance that reflects a change in the pay
rate and salary schedule for the position of Communications Supervisor.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
In December 2014, City Council approved the annual Salary Ordinance for the 2015 fiscal year.
BACKGROUND:
Section 8-8 of the City Charter requires the Human Resources Director to provide a Uniform
Schedule of Pay for the Classified Service, which shall be approved by the City Manager and
submitted to City Council. The proposed Pay Schedule increases the pay rate and salary scale
for the classified position of Communications Supervisor. The proposed increase in salary
recognizes the level of work that is required of the position and is set forth in consideration of
internal equity with similar positions in the Information Technology Department. The salary
schedule was reviewed and it was determined that this position should be compensated at the
level of the Senior Business Systems Analyst, Senior Network Administrator, and Senior
Security Administrator.
This proposal is submitted in advance of an upcoming recruitment to fill the position that was
vacated by retirement.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funding for the position of Communications Supervisor was appropriated in the 2015 budget.
Even with the proposed increase in the pay rate and salary scale of the Communications
Supervisor, the City has already realized salary savings for the year due to the recent retirement
of the incumbent. Therefore, the net savings result will be approximately $14,700 for the
remainder of 2015.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
None.
STAKEHOLDER PROCESS:
None.
ALTERNATIVES:
If the proposed Salary Ordinance does not receive approval by City Council, the current pay
rate and salary schedule will remain the same as previously approved in December 2014 for
FY2015.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approval of the Ordinance.
