PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
City Council accepted the Kaiser Walk and Wheel grant in March 2014, Ordinance number 8705. In
general this grant funds the part-time Bike/Pedestrian Coordinator position and is funding the installation
of wayfinding signs along major bike routes. By accepting the original grant, the City was offered an
opportunity to apply for a demonstration project grant through Kaiser Permanente and the Denver
Foundation.
BACKGROUND
City Staff has been working with PACE (Pueblo Active Community Environments) and the technical
support staff (Fox & Tuttle and Bicycle Colorado) offered to the City through the original Kaiser Walk and
Wheel grant on bring forward new and innovative ideas to increase bicycling opportunities within the City.
The demonstration project funds can be used for projects such as installing protected bike lanes using
flexible bollards to separate the travel lane form the bike lane, creating two-way cycle tracks, use of bike
boxes at high volume intersections, bike boulevards, etc.
This is a true demonstration project where the project can be removed if unsuccessful. Once the final
demonstration project is selected the idea will be presented to City Council at a work session before
installation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds for the project will be paid out of Project No. PL1401.
