A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING PAYMENT FROM THE
COUNCIL CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2014
GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO THE BESSEMER
HISTORICAL SOCIETY IN THE AMOUNT OF $5000 TO
ASSIST WITH PRODUCTION EXPENSES FOR A
DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE COLORADO FUEL AND
IRON COMPANY (CF&I)
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
Payment in the amount of $5000 from the Council Contingencies Account in the
2014 General Fund Budget is authorized to be paid to the Bessemer Historical Society
to assist with production expenses for a documentary about the Colorado Fuel and Iron
Company (CF&I).
SECTION 2.
The officers and staff of the City are directed and authorized to perform any and
all acts consistent with the intent of this Resolution to effectuate the policies and
procedures described herein.
SECTION 3.
This Resolution shall become effective upon passage and approval.

SUMMARY:
Attached for consideration is a letter from the Bessemer Historical Society requesting
assistance with production expenses for a documentary about the Colorado Fuel and
Iron Company (CF&I).
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
No previous action.
BACKGROUND:
The Colorado Fuel and Iron Company (CF&I) was a firm of enormous importance to the
industrialization of the West and played a pivotal role in the history of American labor
relations. CF&I was once the largest steel mill in the Western United States and was
the first integrated steel mill west of the Mississippi River.
The Bessemer Historical Society is commissioning a documentary to bring the CF&I
story to life to inspire an appreciation for the company’s influence on and connection to
Colorado and western history and to establish an enduring legacy in the annals of
American industry.
Production costs will be $196,200 plus an additional $28,000 for educational materials,
a small traveling exhibit, premier showings and staff research time.
The completed documentary will be shown to historical societies, community
organizations, tourists, and special interest gatherings. It will also be provided as
educational material for Colorado history curriculum in schools and libraries throughout
Colorado.
Council President Stephen G. Nawrocki and Council Members Chris Nicoll and Dennis
Flores are requesting $5000 to assist the Bessemer Historical Society with production
expenses for a documentary about the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company (CF&I).
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funds in the amount of $5000 would be paid from the Council Contingencies Account in
the 2014 General Fund Budget to the Bessemer Historical Society.

Not Applicable.
ALTERNATIVES:
City Council could choose not to authorize funding for this program.
RECOMMENDATION:
This Resolution is at the request of Council President Stephen G. Nawrocki and Council
Members Chris Nicoll and Dennis Flores.
