TITLE
A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE 2013 ASSESSMENT OF COSTS FOR THE
DEMOLITION AND REMOVAL OF VARIOUS STRUCTURES AND BUILDINGS UPON
PROPERTY LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF PUEBLO, AND SETTING A DATE FOR
COUNCIL HEARING THEREON
ISSUE
Should City Council set a hearing date for the assessment of costs incurred by the City
for demolition of various dangerous structures?
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of this Resolution.
BACKGROUND
Pursuant to Chapter 13 of Title IV of the Pueblo Municipal Code and Chapter 8 of the
Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings (IBC), the Building Official has
determined that several buildings within the City were in dangerous condition, and after
giving proper notice to the owners, requested the City to demolish the buildings. These
buildings have been demolished, and the costs incurred by the City have been compiled
and are included in the attached report to City Council by the Director of Public Works,
which is attached to this Resolution.
Upon passage of this Resolution, all property owners and others who may hold an
interest in the property will be notified by the City Clerk, pursuant to instructions by the
City Attorney, of the hearing time, date, and place where they may voice their
complaints, objections, or protests to the assessment of costs. This hearing will
coincide with the public hearing for the assessment ordinance.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The cost of demolition, removal, and incidentals has been expended from the CDBG
Fund which was budgeted for the demolition of structures. All funds which are
recovered through this assessment procedure, a possible $181,305.19, will reimburse
this fund.
