Project Number WW1303, Gravity Thickener, is hereby established. SECTION2. The Finance Director is hereby authorized to execute the transfer of $1,200,000 from Projects to be Determined (WW1299) to project Gravity Thickener (WW1303). SECTION 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon approval and passage. INTRODUCED: March 25, 2013 BY: Chris Nicoll Background Paper for Proposed R ESOLUTION March 25, 2013 DATE: AGENDA ITEM # Q-4 WASTEWATER DEPARTMENT DEPARTMENT: GENE MICHAEL, DIRECTOR TITLE A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING PROJECT WW1303, GRAVITY THICKENER, AND APPROVING THE TRANSFER OF APPROPRIATED WASTEWATER FUNDS BETWEEN PROJECTS ISSUE Should City Council approve the establishment of project WW1303, Gravity Thickener, and the transfer of $1,200,000 of available budget from Projects to be Determined (WW1299), to the newly established WW1303? RECOMMENDATION Approval of this Resolution. BACKGROUND The Water Reclamation Facility uses gravity thickening as a process in which solids are settled to produce concentrated solids prior to anaerobic digestion and disposal. Thickening wastewater solids reduces the volume, increases digester detention time, improves digestion and reduces costs in processing and disposal. Ferric chloride, a corrosive metal salt, is added to the wastewater to control hydrogen sulfide and protect downstream equipment. Over time both ferric chloride and hydrogen sulfide cause corrosion to metal parts located where air and wastewater meet. The construction of a new gravity thickener will assist in ensuring that the Water Reclamation Facility continues to stay in compliance with its discharge permit. FINANCIAL IMPACT Funding for this project will be taken from the Projects to be Determined account (WW1299).
