A RESOLUTION CHANGING THE NAME OF THE SISTER CITY
COMMISSION TO THE SISTER CITIES COMMISSION
WHEREAS, the City Council by Resolution No. 2622, adopted July 13, 1970, created the
Pueblo Person-to-Person Commission to implement the United States People-To-People
Program by the City of Pueblo’s affiliation with Puebla, Mexico; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 5631, adopted July 8, 1985, the City Council changed the
name of the Person-to-Person Commission to Puebla-Pueblo Commission to greater
emphasize the City of Pueblo’s relationship with Puebla, Mexico; and
WHEREAS, The Puebla-Pueblo Commission adopted Bylaws changing its name to
Sister City Commission and expanding the Commission’s purpose to include serving as liaison
between the City of Pueblo and other cities outside the United States that have been designated
and selected by the City Council of the City of Pueblo for affiliation with the City of Pueblo; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo now has six Sister Cities, all have been approved by City
Council, to include Puebla, Mexico, Chihuahua, Mexico, Weifang, China, Maribor Slovenia,
Luca Sicula, Sicily, and Bergamo, Italy; and
WHEREAS, changing the name of the Commission would better reflect the number of
Sister Cities that the City of Pueblo has; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
The name of the Sister City Commission is hereby changed to the Sister Cities
Commission.
SECTION 2.
This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption.

BACKGROUND
Resolution No. 2622 adopted July 13, 1970 created the Pueblo Person-to-Person Commission
as part of the “People-to-People Program” inaugurated by the President of the United States in
1956 to establish greater friendship and understanding between peoples of the United States
and other nations through the medium of direct personal contact.
Resolution No. 5631 adopted July 8, 1985 the City Council changed the name of the Person-to-
Person Commission to Puebla-Pueblo Commission to greater emphasize the City of Pueblo’s
relationship with Puebla, Mexico. The Puebla-Pueblo Commission adopted Bylaws that
changed its name to the Sister City Commission and expanding the Commission’s purpose to
include serving as liaison between the City of Pueblo and cities outside the United States which
has been designated and selected by the City Council of the City of Pueblo for affiliation with the
City.
Since 1985, the City of Pueblo, by Resolution, has a total of six Sister Cities including Puebla,
Mexico, Chihuahua, Mexico, Weifang, China, Maribor Slovenia, Luca Sicula, Sicily and
Bergamo, Italy.
Changing the name of the Commission would better reflect the number of Sister Cities by
changing it from Sister City Commission to Sister Cities Commission.
