Subject to City Council passage and approval of an employment agreement with candidate, City Council designates Sam Azad as its preference for the appointment as City Manager of Pueblo. SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective upon final passage and approval. INTRODUCED: November 26, 2012 BY: Steve Nawrocki COUNCIL PERSON Background Paper for Proposed RESOLUTION DATE: AGENDA ITEM # Q-1 November 26, 2012 DEPARTMENT: City Council TITLE: A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE PREFERENCE OF CITY COUNCIL WITH RESPECT TO THE APPOINTMENT OF A CITY MANAGER ISSUE: Should the City Council approve a Resolution designating its preference with respect to the appointment of a City Manager? RECOMMENDATION: This Resolution is at the request of the City Council. BACKGROUND: Recruitment for a City Manager began on June 17, 2012, following the resignation of Jerry Pacheco as City Manager effective May 30, 2012. Fifty-four applications were received, and City Council named three finalists on October 23. City Council conducted formal interviews with the three finalists on November 16. This Resolution would name the City Council’s preference with respect to the appointment of a City Manager. Once the City has negotiated an employment agreement with this candidate, another Resolution will be brought forth to appoint the individual and approve the employment agreement. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Pursuant to Section 4-1 of the Charter of the City of Pueblo, the City Council shall fix the City Manager’s salary at such amount as the City Council shall approve, which will be negotiated through an employment agreement. The existing salary range for the City Manager position is $11,870 to $14,508 per month ($142,447 to $174,102 annually).
