INTRODUCED: August 27, 2012 BY: Sandy Daff COUNCIL PERSON Background Paper for Proposed R ESOLUTION AGENDA ITEM # Q-1 DATE: August 27, 2012 DEPARTMENT: DEPARTMENT OFAVIATION MARK LOVIN, DIRECTOR TITLE A RESOLUTION APPROVING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PUEBLO, A MUNICIPAL CORPORATION, AND SHORT ELLIOTT HENDRICKSON INC. (SEH) FOR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,234,957.25 RELATED TO CONSTRUCTION SERVICES FOR THE NEW TRAINING RUNWAY PROJECT AT PUEBLO MEMORIAL AIRPORT AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO EXECUTE SAME ISSUE Should City Council approve an agreement with Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. to oversee construction of the new training runway at the airport? RECOMMENDATION Approval of this Resolution. BACKGROUND The FAA has determined that the current training runway is unsafe due to it’s proximity to the ramp and they have issued a grant to fund 95% of the project costs to construct a new training runway and associated taxiways. This agreement with Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. is for the professional services related to the construction of the new runway. Initially, the agreement was for $1,365,842.10. However, that amount was $114,220.10 more than the funds available in the project. The FAA agreed to allow SEH to remove the AGIS survey from the project which reduced the agreement amount by $130,884.85. FINANCIAL IMPACT Funds in the amount of $1,234,957.25 shall be expended from Project AP1202-Training Runway-Phase II.
