ISSUE
Should the City Council award a construction contract in the amount of $64,800 to
Bassett Construction Company, for the Chemical Feed Buildings at the Airport Industrial
Park wastewater lift stations?
RECOMMENDATION
Approve this Resolution.
BACKGROUND
The Wastewater Department conducted a pilot project in 2011 to evaluate the feasibility
of reducing hydrogen sulfide corrosion and odors at vaults and manholes between Lift
Station #1 and Lift Station #2. The project consisted of the introduction of various
chemicals into the lift stations to reduce the corrosive conditions. Through chemical
monitoring, it was determined that the chemical addition regime can be successful in
reducing corrosion and odors in the sanitary sewer system. In a long term effort to keep
the conditions favorable to the public as well as protect wastewater system, the
Wastewater Department is implementing the chemical feed system at full scale. This
project is to construct buildings at those two lift stations to house chemicals and pumps.
A bid summary sheet is attached.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funding for this project will be taken from the Sewer User Fund. Funding is available
and was appropriated in the 2012 budget for Project No 12-042 (WWAN01) Chemical
Feed Buildings and System.
