TITLE A RESOLUTION AWARDING A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT IN THE AMOUNT OF $94,917 TO CEDAR RIDGE LANDSCAPE, INC. AND SETTING FORTH $9,500, FOR CONTINGENCIES FOR PROJECT NO. 11-051 (SW1003), FY 2011 FOUNTAIN CREEK SEDIMENT REMOVAL DEMONSTRATION PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASING AGENT TO EXECUTE THE SAME ISSUE Should City Council award a construction contract in the amount of $94,917 to Cedar Ridge Landscape, Inc., for Project No.11-051 (SW1003), FY 2011 Fountain Creek Sediment Removal Demonstration Project? RECOMMENDATION Approval of this Resolution. BACKGROUND This project consists of the placement of a 30 ft sediment collector in Fountain Creek, the placement of the separator and controller adjacent to Fountain Creek, and all associated pressure and gravity pipe systems and appurtenances. The project is a demonstration project intended to monitor and test parameters associated with the sediment removal operation on Fountain Creek. Parameters of interest include volume and rate of sediment removed, gradation of the sand/gravel removed, rate and amount of channel down-cutting associated with the sediment removal, quality of sediment, and any other relevant biological testing. Data collection and monitoring will continue for a period of one year from the date of the installation so that multiple storm events on Fountain Creek can be analyzed. If successful, the system can be an effective method for lowering the channel flowline to reclaim freeboard within the levee system lost due to channel aggradation. Attached is a bid summary showing the result of competitive bids on this project. FINANCIAL IMPACT Funding for these services will come from awarded grant funding in the amount of $225,000 from the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) per Ordinance No. 8162, $250,000 from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) per Ordinance No. 8161 with in-kind matching funds of $75,000 from the Stormwater Enterprise Fund, and $49,514 to be transferred from CP0802 – Peaks to Prairie Match.
