Society for the completion of a Bessemer Historic Context Study and Preservation Plan
and budget and allocate $29,000 for the completion of the project?
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of the Ordinance.
BACKGROUND
The City’s Historic Preservation Commission was awarded a $28,000 grant to conduct a
Bessemer Historic Context Study and Preservation Plan in March 2011. The study will
provide a detailed neighborhood history of Bessemer including a preservation plan. The
study will generate interest in historic preservation and help owners better preserve their
historic buildings by giving them the resources to landmark their properties. The study
will also help guide planning decisions, as well as, landmark eligibility
recommendations. The study will be made available to the public via 50 printed copies.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Administration of the grant will be the only fiscal impact. No City grant match is
required. Historic Pueblo Inc. and Bessemer Historic Society will donate $500 each to
the effort for a total project budget of $29,000.
