TITLE
AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE BUDGET AND APPROPRIATION OF FUNDS IN THE
FEDERAL FORFEITURE ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT OF $270,000 FOR USE AND
BENEFIT OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
ISSUE
Whether to allow funds for the use and benefit of the police department to include the
purchase of police vehicles, confidential informant money, police replacement vests, and
travel expenses.
RECOMMENDATION
The Federal Forfeiture Committee recommends approval of this ordinance.
BACKGROUND
The $270,000.00 will be spent as follows: $160,000 for new police vehicles; $55,000 for
confidential informant money; $50,000 for police replacement vests; and $5,000 for travel
expenses associated with training.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The funds in the Federal Forfeiture Account are confiscated funds from drug arrests. Federal
Guidelines stipulate that these funds are to be used for the benefit of the police department.
They can only be used to supplement the police budget, not supplant it. The City is in receipt
of these funds.
