HomeMy WebLinkAbout12101 RESOLUTION NO. 12101 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING AN OFFICIAL FLAG POLICY FOR THE CITY OF PUEBLO WHEREAS, City Council desires that all City buildings which display the United States flag be in compliance with proper flag etiquette; and WHEREAS, The Flag Code, Title 4, U.S.C., Chapter 1, as amended by P.L.110- 41, adopted June 29, 2007, sets forth the Congressionally declared proper etiquette for treatment and display of the American flag; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. The City Council hereby adopts as its official flag policy The Flag Code, 4 United States Code, Chapter 1, as amended. SECTION 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to implement the official flag policy, using the attached “Let’s be Right on Flag Etiquette” as guidance material, which is to be followed by all City departments at locations where the American flag is displayed upon City-owned or controlled property. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall be effective upon passage and approval. RECOMMENDATION: Leroy Garcia, City Council Member, recommends approval of this Resolution. BACKGROUND: The Flag Code, Title 4, U.S.C., Chapter 1, as adopted and amended by Congress through P.L.110-41 (June 29, 2007) sets forth the official United States policy on display of the United States Flag. This code has been explained in a brochure published and distributed by the American Legion entitled “Let’s be Right on Flag Etiquette” along with answers to specific questions regarding the proper treatment and display of the American Flag. The proposed Resolution would adopt the Flag Code as the City’s official flag policy to be used by all City departments at locations where the American flag is displayed upon City-owned or controlled property. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact.
