A RESOLUTION RENAMING WILDHORSE CREEK PARK
TO PETE JIMENEZ PARK

WHEREAS, Pete Jimenez began serving his country in the 29 Infantry Division as part
of Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944, and fought through the surrender of Germany in 1945;
and
WHEREAS, Pete Jimenez demonstrated his dedication to protecting the freedoms of
others through his strong military leadership and selfless efforts, receiving the Bronze Medal for
courage and the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle on five different occasions; and
WHEREAS, Pete Jimenez was the recipient of the French Croix de Guerre – WAR
CROSS (the French government’s Medal of Honor) and was also knighted by the French for
extraordinary heroism with the National Order of the Legion of Honor, the French equivalency of
the U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that Pete Jimenez’s memory shall serve as a positive
example to our community’s youth by his example of leadership, sacrifice, and service to our
great country. Now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1
The City Park located at 1100 – 1800 Graham Avenue, Pueblo Colorado, is hereby
renamed “PETE JIMENEZ PARK”.
SECTION 2
This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon final passage and approval.

ISSUE
Should the City Council approve a resolution renaming Wildhorse Creek Park to Pete
Jimenez Park?
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of the Resolution
BACKGROUND
Wildhorse Creek Park is located between 1100–1800 Graham Avenue on Pueblo’s
Westside. The Park is approximately 18.2 acres and includes three lighted basketball
courts, playground, restrooms, open turf area, and picnic shelter.

Pete Jimenez served our country in the 29 Infantry Division as part of the Normandy
invasion on June 6, 1944, and fought through the surrender of Germany in 1945.
Pete Jimenez was vested as a knight, in the Order of the Legion of Honor, for
“Extraordinary Heroism and Valor” in battle, by the French government, and was awarded
the French Croix de Guerre (the French Medal of Honor) for heroism, gallantry and
bravery.
Staff Sgt Jimenez was awarded the Purple Heart five times; Good Conduct Medal,
European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; one Bronze Arrowhead; four Bronze
Campaign Stars for combat in Normandy; Northern France, Rhineland and Central
Europe (Germany) Campaigns; the WWII Victory Medal; and was recommended for the
U.S. Medal of Honor by the Colorado House of Representatives in 2004.
The dedication of the park as Pete Jimenez Park is scheduled for February 6, 2011, Mr.
Jimenez’s Birthday.
Council President Larry Atencio supports and recommends this resolution.
