TITLE
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2010 STAFFING ORDINANCE
ADDING A POSITION WITHIN THE LAW DEPARTMENT
ISSUE
Should City Council approve the proposed Ordinance amending the 2010 Staffing
Ordinance to provide for an additional Assistant City Attorney position in the Law
Department?
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of the ordinance.
BACKGROUND
The transition plan for the Law Department which began in October 2009 envisioned
transitioning to an internal department of the City. At this time, it operates with two
Assistant City Attorney positions under the City Attorney and multiple outside counsel
by contract. With this proposed change, one of the outside contracts will be terminated
and that contract attorney (Bob Jagger) will be brought in-house.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
None anticipated. The Law Department budget for the remainder of 2010 will be
unaffected by this change and it is anticipated that the 2011 Law Department budget will
be the same or less than the budget under the current structure.
