EUCLID MILES HOUSE, 1007 LAKE AVENUE, AS A LOCAL HISTORIC LANDMARK WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo's Historic Preservation Code, Title IV, Chapter 14, declares that the City shall identify, designate and preserve those buildings, objects, monuments, structures and sites which reflect outstanding elements of the community's architectural and cultural heritage; and WHEREAS, the present application was initiated by the property owner, and the City's Historic Preservation Commission has reviewed the application for designation of the J. Euclid Miles House, 1007 Lake Avenue, as a Local Historic Landmark and has recommended to the Planning and Zoning Commission the designation of this resource; and WHEREAS, the City Planning and Zoning Commission has reviewed the Historic Preservation Commission's recommendation and the designation application and submitted its recommendation thereon for landmark designation to Council; BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. The City Council finds and determines that The J. Euclid Miles House located at, 1007 Lake Avenue, Pueblo, Colorado, and legally described as Lots 41 and 42, Block 5, Lakewood Subdivision, is associated with the life of a person significant in the past, and embodies those distinguishing characteristics of an architectural type or engineering specimen; as defined in the Pueblo Historic Preservation Code Section 4 -14 -8. SECTION 2. The City Council hereby designates The J. Euclid Miles House as a local Pueblo Historic Landmark, subject to the benefits, obligations and restrictions resulting from such designation as described in Title IV, Chapter 14 of the Pueblo Municipal Code. SECTION 3. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final passage and approval, and a certified copy of this Ordinance shall be recorded in the records of the Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder by the City Clerk. Euclid Miles House as a local Pueblo Historic Landmark, pursuant to the Historic Preservation Code, Title IV, Chapter 14 of the Pueblo Municipal Code? RECOMMENDATION Adoption of Ordinance, as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission at their Work Session on April 22, 2010 and the Historic Preservation Commission at their Regular Meeting on March 25, 2010. BACKGROUND Since its construction in 1900 by local developer J. Euclid Miles, who was an active developer in South Pueblo, the building has served as a residence for the Bessemer and CF&I middle class for 110 years. The home is a fine example of a transitional Queen Anne and Classic Revival single family residence. The designation is consensual and the owner is aware of all the benefits and responsibilities conferred by designation. Findings of staff, the Historic Preservation Commission and the Planning and Zoning Commission are attached. FINANCIAL IMPACT None.
