A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF PUEBLO
TO APPLY FOR A 2010 COLORADO DIVISION OF
CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL
JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT FOR TWO FULL -TIME
EMERGENCY SERVICES DISPATCHERS
WHEREAS, the City of Pueblo is eligible to submit a grant application to the
Colorado Division of Criminal Justice for the 2010 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice
Assistance Grant funding; and
WHEREAS, the term of the grant covers the period from October 1, 2010 to
September 30, 2011; and
WHEREAS, the funds from this grant will be utilized by the City of Pueblo to
benefit the health, welfare and safety of the citizens of the City; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
The application for a 2010 Colorado Division of Criminal Justice Edward Byrne
Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, a copy of which is attached hereto, is hereby
approved. The President of the City Council is authorized to submit the application in
the name of the City.

ISSUE
The Colorado Division of Criminal Justice (CDOJ) has informed the Police Department
that funds are available under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.
The term of this grant covers the period from October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2011.
The department recommends approval of this resolution.
BACKGROUND
The Colorado Division of Criminal Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance
Grant Program provides funds to units of local government for the purpose of improving
law enforcement technology and upgrading necessary equipment. The program is
designed to help local communities address problems specific to their area.
This grant request is for $102,922.00 to fund two (2) full -time emergency services
dispatcher positions for a one -year period, from October 1, 2010 through September
30, 2011.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
This grant funding represents $102,922.00 to the City of Pueblo with no required
match.

The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) is seeking assistance in funding for two (2) FTE Emergency Services Dispatcher
positions for a one -year period. This project was designed to improve the functioning of the criminal justice system,
specifically the police department's ability to safely and quickly accept and dispatch calls for service, through effective
and efficient use of resources. The personnel requested in this application will help provide for the safe, efficient and
timely handling of emergency calls for service.
