A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SUBMITTAL OF AN
APPLICATION FOR A COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL GRANT AND
AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF CITY COUNCIL TO EXECUTE
SAME
WHEREAS, goals of the City Council include improving the condition and quality of
city streets; and creating strong partnerships with other units of local government, including the
school district and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Department of Transportation is currently soliciting proposals
for City- School District jointly sponsored projects encouraging children to walk or bicycle to
school and improving the safety of pedestrian routes to school;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:

The City Council hereby approves the submittal of a grant application to the Colorado
Department of Transportation for a Safe Routes to School Grant for infrastructure improvements
in the vicinity of Corwin International Magnet School. The President of City Council is hereby
authorized to execute the grant application in the name of the City.

ISSUE
Should the City Council approve the submittal of a 2010 application for a Colorado Department
of Transportation Safe Routes to School Grant?
RECOMMENDATION
Approval of this Resolution.
BACKGROUND
This grant requests funds to construct curb, gutter, sidewalk, curb ramps, bump outs and traffic
control devices in the vicinity of Corwin International Magnet School in the 1500 to 1900 blocks
of Lakeview Avenue. Improvements are designed to slow traffic speeds, improve safety and
walkability for children attending the school.
This grant request is a result of the presentation to City Council by the students of Corwin
International Magnet School on May 26, 2008.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
This grant is 100% funded; no cash match is required.
