BY: CITY CLERK DEPARTMENT: City Clerk's Office Gina Dutcher, City Clerk TITLE A RESOLUTION NAMING THE SKATEBOARD PARK LOCATED AT CITY PARK THE "SERGEANT BLAKE A. HARRIS SKATEBOARD PARK" ISSUE Should City Council name the City's Skateboard Park located at City Park the Sergeant Blake A. Harris Skateboard Park'? RECOMMENDATION Approval of the Resolution BACKGROUND The Skateboard Park located at City Park currently does not have a formal name. Blake Harris, born and raised in Pueblo, was very active in sports and loved to skateboard. Blake was one of the young ringleaders that approached City Council several years ago to build a skateboard park, and he took the lead in the effort to raise private funds that went toward the design and construction of the skateboard park. Sergeant Blake Harris served with the U.S. Army with the V Calvary of Fort Hood Texas. On March 5, 2007, Blake was killed in action while serving in Iraq. Blake joined the Army to serve his country and to help protect the freedoms we enjoy here in the United States. Blake was proud to be a part of the United States Army. The skateboarding community believes naming the Skateboard Park in Blake's memory would be an honorable thing to do, and it would serve as a reminder that citizens of all ages can make positive things happen in our community. FINANCIAL IMPACT The only financial requirement would be the cost for signage at the park.
