A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING SUBMISSION OF AN
APPLICATION FOR A GRANT TO THE "ASSISTANCE TO
FIREFIGHTERS GRANT PROGRAM" IN ORDER TO DEVELOP A
FIREFIGHTER WELLNESS AND FITNESS PROGRAM AND
PURCHASE PHYSICAL FITNESS EQUIPMENT AND
AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO
EXECUTE SAME
WHEREAS, the city of Pueblo supports the development of a wellness and
fitness program and the acquisition of equipment to facilitate the safe and efficient
firefighting operations by the Pueblo Fire Department, it authorizes the grant application
to the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that:
SECTION 1.
The City Council hereby approves and authorizes submission of the grant
application to the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program for the development of a
wellness and fitness program and acquisition of equipment, a copy of which is attached
hereto. The President of the City Council is authorized to execute and submit the grant
application in the name of the City.

ISSUE
Should City Council approve submission of an application for a grant administered by
the Department of Homeland Security? If the grant is awarded, the acceptance of the
grant and appropriation of matching funds will be brought to City Council by separate
Ordinance.
Approval of the Resolution
BACKGROUND
The City is applying for approximately $58,718.00 in Federal dollars to develop a
wellness and fitness program for firefighters and also the acquisition of physical fitness
equipment.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The grant requires a 20% cash match. Based on our anticipated grant amount of
$58,718.00, the match would be $14,679.00 for a total amount of $73,397.00. Matching
funds will come from the Interest earnings from the City's Y2 cent sales tax.
