HomeMy WebLinkAbout11548RESOLUTION NO. 11548 A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SELECTED PUBLIC ARTWORK FOR THE PUEBLO MUNICIPAL JUSTICE CENTER WHEREAS, on July 18, 2008, proposals were received from artists to provide artwork on the new Pueblo Municipal Justice Center's building and /or adjacent site; and WHEREAS, on February 23, 2009, City Council, acting as the "Art Selection Committee ", reviewed and determined that the following artwork proposals are accepted. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, that: SECTION 1. Two (2) sculptured brick and tile artworks submitted by Williams Studios known as the "Bald Eagle" motifs, which will be located on the south and west elevations of the building is hereby accepted and approved at a total cost of $74,000. SECTION 2. Two (2) sculptured benches submitted by Shane and Kate Jarrett, which will be located along the north edge of the building within the streetscape is hereby accepted and approved at a total cost of $50,000. SECTION 3. One (1) 14' in height Cor -Ten sculpture submitted by John Wilbar, which will be located near the entrance of the building is hereby accepted and approved at a cost of $28,000. SFrTinN 4 One (1) granite sculpture submitted by Harkin Lucero known as "Sun ", which will be located at the northeast corner of the "D" and Main Street intersection is hereby accepted and approved at a cost of $40,000. Funding for the artwork will be provided from the Police Building Fund, Project Number P130601. PACHECO, DIRECTOR TITLE A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SELECTED PUBLIC ARTWORK FOR THE PUEBLO MUNICIPAL JUSTICE CENTER ISSUE Should City Council approve the selected artwork for the Pueblo Municipal Justice Center? Approve the Resolution. BACKGROUND The City solicited Request for Proposals (RFP) from artists to provide artwork adjacent to or on the new Pueblo Municipal Justice Center. On July 18, 2008, the City received seven (7) art proposals from the following artists vying to provide the public artwork: 1.) Shane & Kate Jarrett 2.) John Nickerson & Tom Latka 3.) Williams Studio 4.) Mary Angers 5.) John Wilbar 6.) Randy Ford & Jean Latka 7.) Harkin Lucero At the February 23, 2009 City Council Work Session, City Council acting as the art selection committee, selected the following artists to provide specific artwork on or adjacent to the new building: • The Williams Studios — two (2) sculptured brick and tile artworks both known as the "Bald Eagle" motifs located on both the south and west elevations of the building at a total cost of $74,000. • Shane and Kate Jarrett — two (2) sculptured benches located along the north edge of the building within the streetscape at a total cost of $50,000. • John Wilbar — one (1) 14' in height Cor -Ten sculpture located near the entrance of the building at a cost of $28,000. • Harkin Lucero — one (1) granite sculpture known as the "Sun" located at the northeast corner of the "D" and Main Street intersection at a cost of $40,000. Individual agreements will be entered into with each of the artists. FINANCIAL IMPACT A $250,000 budget was established by City Council for the artwork ($230,000 for the artist and their artwork; and $20,000 for the site preparation). Total amount for the selected art is $192,000. An undetermined amount of additional funds will be needed for site preparation. Funding for the artwork will be provided from the Police Building Fund, Project No. PB0601.
