TITLE
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TRANSFER OF $2,000 FROM THE
CONTINGENCIES ACCOUNT IN THE 2008 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO THE OUT OF
CYCLE REQUESTS TO FUND THE BELMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DESTINATION
IMAGINATION GROUP
ISSUE
Should the City Council fund the Belmont Elementary School Destination Imagination
group?
BACKGROUND
The Belmont Elementary School Destination Imagination is a group of students who are
engaged in math, science, technology, and problem solving and then are given the
challenge to identify a problem or opportunity and design a solution. Destination
Imagination is an international program that addresses these issues, and through hands -on
activities, mentoring, and performances, students discover the world of design, engineering,
and learning to think "out of the box." Belmont School's 5'" Grade placed T (third) at the
state level competition in Denver and has the opportunity to go to Knoxville, Tennessee and
compete with other students worldwide in the Global Destination Imagination competition.
The monies Belmont Elementary School is requesting from the City would be used for
registration fees for the event, room and board, and travel from Colorado to Tennessee.
RECOMMENDATION
Resolution recommended by Council Member Occhiato.
