HomeMy WebLinkAbout11268RESOLUTION NO. 11268 A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SUBMITTAL OF A 2008 GRANT APPLICATION TO THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL AFFAIRS ENERGY MINERAL IMPACT ASSISTANCE FUND MONIES RELATING TO THE CITY OF PUEBLO SOUTHSIDE FIRE STATION PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF CITY COUNCIL TO EXECUTE SAME WHEREAS, it is a goal of the Pueblo City Council modernize City facilities and infrastructure including more fire stations; WHEREAS, the City Council supports the application to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs for Energy Mineral Impact Assistance Funds to assist in the cost to construct a new Pueblo Southside Fire Station; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PUEBLO, COLORADO, that: The City agrees to sponsor and submit an application for the Pueblo Southside Fire Station Project consisting of the construction of a new fire station. The City recommends the application be forwarded to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, for consideration to receive monies from the Energy Mineral Impact Assistance Fund. The President of City Council is hereby authorized to execute sponsorship of the application on behalf of the City. PACHECO, DIRECTOR TITLE A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE SUBMITTAL OF A 2008 GRANT APPLICATION TO THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL AFFAIRS ENERGY MINERAL IMPACT ASSISTANCE FUND MONIES RELATING TO THE CITY OF PUEBLO SOUTHSIDE FIRE STATION PROJECT AND AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF CITY COUNCIL TO EXECUTE SAME ISSUE Should the City Council approve the submittal of a 2008 Grant Application to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs Energy Mineral Impact Assistance Fund monies relating to the Pueblo Southside Fire Station Project and authorize the President of City Council to execute same? RECOMMENDATION Approval of the Resolution. The grant request is for supplemental funds to assist with the construction of the new fire station on the property located east of Pueblo Blvd along Surfwood Lane. The new fire station project will address a priority goal of the Pueblo City Council to modernize City facilities and infrastructure including more fire stations. The project will complete the construction of a new Fire Station #9 estimated to be 6,400 square feet including a 2,400 square foot fire truck bay and 4,000 square foot fire fighter quarters. The station will have the capability of housing two fire trucks and initially will be staffed with three firefighters that could be expanded to six firefighters. The building will be a frame construction with either a stucco or brick type finish. The station will serve a 5-6 square mile area of the south side of the city for medical response and a combined response area of 10 -12 square miles for fire response to structural fires and emergency calls requiring response from more than one station. FINANCIAL IMPACT The total cost for the Southside Fire Station is estimated to be $1.75 million. The DOLA Energy Mineral Impact Assistance Fund grant request is requesting $500,000 to supplement the construction cost of the fire station. The City's cash matching funds for the DOLA grant application is $750,000, with a total estimated cost for the fire station of $1.25 million. The City's matching funds will be provided from the revenues from the Police and Fire Stations construction funds.
